Meet your coach- Janis Krempa, M.Ed, BCBA

Janis Krempa is a board-certified behavior analyst with a background in education and psychology who has been working with students with autism and their families since 1994.  She created and led social skills groups for children and young adults on the autism spectrum, focusing on comprehensive social and communication skills- promoting greater independence and active participation at home, in school, and in the community.  Janis works very closely with her clients to listen to concerns, find individual strengths, and build skills to foster independence and build skills for success- as defined by the client and his/her family.

Janis is the co-author of Social Skills Solutions- A Hands-On Manual for Teaching Social Skills to Children with Autism.   She is currently working on edits for an updated 2023 release, with brand new material for social skills & young adults.

Throughout her career, Janis has enjoyed and is motivated by the unique opportunity to combine the art of teaching and the science of learning for students with autism of all ages.  Overarching all goal selection and teaching is the essential practice of listening and collaborating to select goals and define individual success.

Janis is currently a proud Member-At-Large Board Member for the esteemed North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis.

Let's set up a time to meet for a few minutes and see how we might work together to step toward your goals!

1:1 Individualized Sessions

Written "take away" notes and visuals are sent from every session to bridge information

and build a "toolbox" of reminders, tips and strategies.  Notes are created to support teaching and be a reference for later as a refresher or as a reminder.  Notes are designed specifically to target the unique visual learning styles of most ASD learners. Similarly, suggestions for Executive Functioning Skills are supported with specific visual exemplars.

Executive Functioning Skills- build the skills you need that

maximize your efforts.

Create systems at work

and at home to help you manage "the everyday" and build steps toward greater independence and success!

Individually designed action plans are created with the learner, and detailed notes with visual examples are sent after each session.

Parents are often active partners and advocates to build the skills needed for lifelong success and independence. Executive Functioning Consultation gives parents the tools they need to help their child be more independent with everyday tasks and build the skills needed for increased independence and self-advocacy at home, at work and in relationships.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the gold standard for teaching individuals with autism, independent of age or ability level.

Building Steps Forward brings together the individual skills, strengths, and motivation to discover personalized goal selection for the client, the focused dynamics of 1:1 sessions, and the structure of ABA

to create individualized goals and teaching strategies that are ready for immediate use in the everyday.

I am a parent of two children on the spectrum who were diagnosed at age 2 over 20 years ago.  Both children were blessed to receive intensive A.B.A. services under the supervision of Janis Krempa who served our childrens' consultant.  Janis is brilliant, patient, loving, and determined to make a difference in the lives of others.  Both children were diagnosed ealry with severe autism  early and now both living independently as adults which in itself is a miracle.  We are so grateful that Janis was able to take any skill, break it down into very small parts and teach others how to teach them.  She is truly a gift.  Recently one of my children came to me struggling with a relationship and ask me who could help guide them.  I suggested they reach out to Janis to see if she could help and they started having weekly 1 hour sessions,  After the 3rd session my child reached out to me elated and could not believe how effective their sessions were in resolving conflict and improving communication skills.  This has lead to increased confidence and has made him more outgoing.  He is happier than he has been in a long time and is try new things.  He has decided to continue his weekly sessions and is creating new goals for himself.  I so wish I had thought of this sooner but am so glad he was open to the help!

Thanks for being so amazing Janis!

“I’ve known Janis for many years; we collaborated working with students of all ages, across the ASD spectrum.  Janis is a very thoughtful and mindful clinician.  She really takes the time to get to know her students and their families, listening to what they want to learn, and what’s important to them.  She encourages her students to think about what they want to do and then helps them achieve it!”
